SharePoint is a set of web-based technologies that utilizes a common technical baseline to offer a variety of capabilities including intranet portals, document and file management, collaboration, social networks, extranets, websites, enterprise search and business intelligence. Implemented properly it can provide a highly productive solution for a variety of organizational requirements.

Here is an example of one successful implementation:

VETS is responsible for the management of all the FAA eFAST program data.  This involves collection, storage, tracking, analysis and reporting of extensive qualitative and quantitative data and metrics related to the eFAST contracting program and management of the document repository in which all eFAST contractual documents reside.

VETS has developed and implemented a SharePoint site and provides ongoing maintenance of the eFAST Program’s acquisition life cycle workflow and document management tool/website.

The SharePoint system provides role-based functionality, training, and online help for all parties interacting in the acquisition process – PMOs, contracting officials, contractors, and technical staff. Support entails configuration management of the site design, content management, user access management, and user request administration in accordance with the FAA standards and architecture.

Enhancements to the eFAST SharePoint site by VETS have provided increased automation and faster response times.  VETS successfully migrated the eFAST acquisition SharePoint base site to SharePoint 2010.  The following components and services are included in the implementation.
